Marianna has worked as a midwife for over 14 years, primarily within delivery suite settings. During the first half of her career, she practised in Italy, her country of birth. However, seeking greater professional recognition and opportunities for career development, she made the decision to relocate to the United Kingdom.

Since moving to the UK, Marianna has experienced a greater level of autonomy within her midwifery practice and has been able to pursue significant academic and professional goals. She successfully completed a Level 7 Master's degree, including the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) qualification, further enhancing her clinical expertise.

Marianna also spent almost two years working for a private research institute. This valuable experience allowed her to develop her research knowledge and skills while discovering a passion for education and teaching.

Since joining Birmingham City University in 2021, Marianna has continued to develop both her teaching and research expertise. Her commitment and contributions have led to rapid career progression, and she now holds the position of Senior Lecturer in Midwifery.

In her current role, Marianna enjoys sharing her extensive clinical experience and enthusiasm for research with students and colleagues. Her primary area of interest is newborn examination, and she leads the postgraduate Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) course, supporting healthcare professionals in developing the knowledge and skills required for this important aspect of practice.

Alongside her interest in newborn assessment, Marianna is a passionate advocate for breastfeeding. She is committed to promoting evidence-based infant feeding practices and supporting families to make informed decisions about feeding their babies. She strongly believes in the importance of empowering women through education, support, and compassionate care during their breastfeeding journey.
