All undergraduate and postgraduate nursing, midwifery and most allied health profession students can access student loans, and there is an additional government grant for some healthcare students.

In addition, postgraduate pre-registration nursing and allied health profession students are able to access the standard student loans available to undergraduate students. Find out more about this from听.

Payments are available to , midwifery听and听many听 degree students.听The funding does not have to be paid back, the funding available includes:

  • training grant of 拢5,000 per year
  • parental support payment of 拢2,000 per student per year to help with childcare costs
  • specialist subject payment of 拢1,000 per year for students on degrees that struggle to recruit, including mental health and learning disability nursing
  • help towards additional travel and accommodation costs to clinical placements over your normal daily travel costs
  • an exceptional hardship fund of up to 拢3,000 per student per academic year

Applications for the funding will be made through a digital portal run by the NHS Business Services Authority which manages the NHS Learning Support Fund. 听听

The College of Radiographers' Valerie Carr Award听supports individuals to study and graduate in pre-registration听therapeutic radiography in England and Wales. In England, award recipients have their fees paid for up to three years. .

The Esmond Bequest is available to members of the Nightingale Fellowship and provides financial assistance for continuing education and professional development in the form of fees for courses or study days or associated costs. .听听

The Iolanthe Midwifery Trust听Midwives Award is to enable midwives to undergo self-development or training, to undertake research or to make improvements to local services.听听

The RCN Foundation鈥檚 Professional Bursary Scheme supports individuals in learning and development activities such as post-graduate university study or professional short courses. .听

RCN Foundation Education Grants -听The RCN have a range of grants available to Nurses, Midwives and Health Care Assistants to fund a wide variety of learning, development and research opportunities.听.

From August 2020, all , midwifery听and听many听 degree students will receive听at least 拢5,000听a year with up to 拢3,000 further funding available听for:听

  • specialist disciplines that struggle to recruit, including mental health听nursing听
  • an additional childcare allowance to help balance studies with family life,听on top of听the 拢1,000 already on offer through the听Learning Support Fund
  • areas of the country which have seen a decrease in people accepted onto some nursing, midwifery and allied health courses over the past year

This means that some students could be eligible for up to 拢8,000 in total support per year.听The funding will not have to be repaid.

The new universal offer听is offered to all听new and continuing听degree-level nursing, midwifery and many allied health students, starting from August 2020.听

Learning Support Fund

The听Learning Support Fund听also offers students additional support while studying for their degree. This includes:

  • dependants allowance of 拢1,000 per student per year
  • additional travel and accommodation costs to clinical placements over their normal daily travel costs
  • an exceptional hardship fund of up to 拢3,000 per student per academic year

Child Dependants Allowance听- A grant of 拢1,000 for eligible students who have parental responsibility for a dependent child.

Travel and Dual Accommodation Expenses听- Reimburse some of the additional cost of attending a practice placement as part of your course.

Exceptional Support Fund听- Financial support up to 拢3,000 is available for听eligible healthcare students who find themselves in sever financial hardship during their studies.
