Tackling healthcare challenges

Our research is core to unravelling some of the biggest challenges in society and health care today. The focus of our life science cluster will vary from cell and molecular biology to genetics and epigenetics, microbiology and bioinformatics.

Research Aims

  • To understand the mechanisms behind some major disease challenges i.e microbial resistance and the nature nurture interaction in respiratory diseases

  • To provide research for academics and students that are orientated towards life sciences researchÌý

  • To support the development of research themes and groups within life sciences.

Male Contraceptive Research Consortium

The male contraceptive research consortium, coordinated by Professor John Howl at Birmingham City University, are researching technologies for a clinically useful male contraceptive.ÌýThe research is in partnership with academics at the University of Wolverhampton,ÌýUniversity of Aveiro,ÌýSão Paulo State University, andÌýUniversity of Queensland.Ìý
