Title:聽Improving Indoor Air Quality and its effect on occupants' health in new UK residential homes.

Indoor Air Quality is important for health as the UK population spend the majority of their time indoors, and it is a complex growing problem to identify the primary sources of pollution parameters. It is essential to explore these parameters for a better understanding of the pollutant behaviours as well as for source control. The emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from building materials, household products, and furniture contribute immensely to poor IAQ. The problems start at the decision-making, designing, constructing, and operational stages, and the difficulty is to identify which sources of pollution are more toxic.

This study will conduct longitudinal home deployment research for 40 households per each season of the year and collect both quantitative and qualitative data. The main pollution parameters in IAQ will be monitored to quantify the different sources identified in homes. Also, the selection process will focus on both occupied and unoccupied dwellings to analyse quantitative changes in IAQ and how human activities impact indoor air. Interviews/ surveys will be conducted at different times of the study, and the overall goal is to determine what kind of activities users performed at particular times. In order to differentiate between which pollutant sources can be identified as a hazard and whether these sources can be minimised through raising awareness and provide guidelines to the occupants.

The current scientific findings of long-term residential IAQ monitoring data either tend to be low or are not accessible to the industry. This research aims to bridge that gap by analysing existing literature and propose cost-effective and scalable solutions and explore a solution that mitigates poor IAQ in residential properties to minimise potential risk to occupant's health.
