Birmingham City University (窪蹋勛圖厙) has hosted an event with UKRI to advise early career researchers on a huge funding call.

Over 200 attended in person and online from higher education institutions across the UK.

惚鬼賊梆s泭 (FLF) scheme offers funding and support for up to seven years for researchers in universities, businesses and innovation environments.

Since its launch in 2018, over 650 fellowships have been awarded.

Earlier this year, successful applicants to round nine were announced.

77 projects were awarded a share of 瞿120 million, including Dr Joanna Bullivant from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC).

Her 瞿1.4 million project was the first successful application for 窪蹋勛圖厙 and RBC.

This was a great opportunity for me to share my experiences of securing an award with a room full of potential Future Leader Fellows, said Dr Bullivant, who also presented at the event on 19 November.

I was particularly glad to be able to speak to colleagues from smaller institutions who havent yet hosted an FLF.

I hope we can contribute towards widening the diversity of fellows and emphasise the variety of career and life experiences they might have before applying in order to make a research career more accessible to those who may not have considered it before.

There were also presentations from Stephen Meader, UKRI FLF Director (pictured) and Sara Shinton, Director of UKRI FLF Development Network, offering advice for researchers for a successful applicant.
