Sam Lunt

The summer of sport for Birmingham City University (窪蹋勛圖厙) is in its stride after a third athlete from the university received their call up for an international competition.

Sam Lunt, a third-year student in BSc Sport and Exercise Science, will represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the Mens 4x400m relay squad at the European Athletics Championships in August.

To have a 窪蹋勛圖厙 student athlete selected to compete in a major international competition, which is not only being hosted at our home for sport, the Alexander Stadium, but a competition for which we are the Official University Partner shows the value of Sport to us, as an organisation, said Phil Llewellyn, Director of Sport at 窪蹋勛圖厙.

Sam has worked incredibly hard to earn his selection and we are all very excited to see him and the team strive for medals. We hope the opportunity for him to compete at the same venue where he studies and trains on a daily basis will give him a great boost!

The announcement comes just days after a 窪蹋勛圖厙 athlete picked up a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The European Athletics Championships will bring world-class athletes from across the continent to Birmingham for the first time from 10-16 August 2026. With European titles on the line, the competition is set to be one of the most exciting and prestigious sporting events of the year.
