Ryley began exploring Queercore as a way to better understand and support his trans sister. What started as a personal exploration developed into a wider body of work that tells stories of defiance, joy, survival, inclusion and acceptance, reflecting the lived experiences of the people within the community.
Speaking about his time studying泭BA (Hons) Photography at 窪蹋勛圖厙, Ryley said:
Going to university was the best decision I made. My time studying at Birmingham City University was truly a blast. I was surrounded by passionate lecturers, technicians and peers who continue to inspire and uplift my work to this day.
Photography course director Joe Miles added: Its such a proud moment to see Ryleys work being celebrated in a magazine as well-known and widely read as Amateur Photographer, and its well deserved. We put a lot of work into ensuring that all our students understand how to progress their careers after the course, and Ryley is proof of that.
Ryleys success highlights how Photography students at 窪蹋勛圖厙 are supported to develop a strong creative voice, build professional confidence and gain real-world exposure while still early in their careers.
