" The variety of placements during my studies exposed me to different specialities and patient  needs, and  prepared me for the fast-paced hospital environment I now work in."

"I always knew I wanted to go to university for furtherÌýqualifications,Ìýbut I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, as I was torn between studying Law or Nursing.ÌýÌý

“After attending an Open Day, I realised I wanted a career where I could make a direct impact on people’s lives.Ìý°Õ³ó²¹³Ù’sÌýwhen I decided that Nursing was the right path for me. The facilities, support from staff, and the welcoming atmosphere at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø really stood out to me, which made my decision much easier.Ìý

“Studying Child Nursing at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø helped me to get the best start in my career. The course was split into placements and academic learning, which was one of the best aspects of the programme. It meant we were constantly able to put what we had learnt into practice, helping everything make more sense and building our confidence in real clinical settings.Ìý

“The variety of placements exposed me to different specialities and patientÌýneeds andÌýprepared me for the fast-paced hospital environment, whilst strengthening my clinical and communication skills.Ìý

“Now,Ìý±õ’mÌýa Cardiology Staff Nurse working at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, andÌý±õ’v±ðÌýbeen in the role for three years. Since qualifying,Ìý±õ’v±ðÌýgained so much hands-on experience and confidence in caring for children with complex cardiac conditions. The role is both challenging and incredibly rewarding, andÌý¾±³Ù’sÌýamazing to see how muchÌý±õ’v±ðÌýgrown professionally and personally since graduating.Ìý±õ’mÌýproud of how farÌý±õ’v±ðÌýcome and grateful for the foundation my course gave me to step into such a specialised area of nursing.Ìý

“Starting my role as a Cardiology Staff Nurse was a big step, as moving from student to registered nurse comes with a lot of responsibility. However, the transition felt manageable because of the solid foundation and clinical experience I gained during my degree.Ìý

“Over the past three years,Ìý±õ’v±ðÌýdeveloped not only my clinical skills but also my confidence and leadership abilities. Working in a specialist area like cardiology has allowed me to care for children with complex conditions, support their families throughÌýdifficult times, and be part of a multidisciplinary team that makes a real difference every day.Ìý

“In the future, I hope to specialise further in paediatric cardiology and take on a role where I can combine clinical practice with leadership or research. I also want to continue developing my skills so I can mentor and support new nurses, just like I was supported during my time at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø."Ìý
