Undergraduate
BMus in Composition gives you the opportunity to work in a supportive, creative environment while preparing you for a flexible portfolio career in the arts. Alongside developing your own music, you鈥檒l gain experience in areas such as workshop leading, teaching, and collaborative creative practice, skills that support a wide range of professional pathways. We encourage our students to define their own artistic voice in a warm, inclusive atmosphere supported by professional composers, allowing you to work directly with a wide variety of performers and ensembles.
Postgraduate
MMus in Composition gives you the opportunity to make choices within your course directly relevant to your future
career aspirations, both within your Principal Study area and in your supporting studies. Alongside your work in your specialist area, the MMus is augmented by : you will select three options from a broad and varied menu of 20-credit 鈥榩rofessional development options鈥�, and a fourth from a list of 40-credit 鈥榬esearch-based options鈥� preparing those who wish to study at doctoral level.
Your principal study modules each culminate in a portfolio of compositions. Preparation of this work is supported by individual specialist tuition, as well as by departmental activities throughout the course.
You will also take a Career Development module, which will聽require you, near the beginning of your course, to reflect ambitiously yet realistically on your professional aspirations, and to formulate a plan that helps you stand the best chance of achieving your goals.聽You will also choose, in addition, some聽Professional Development Options from a varied list.
