Shostakovich and His World
50 years after his death, join us for a week-long exploration of the chamber music of Dmitri Shostakovich as well as composers who were influenced by his music.
Through daily lunchtime and rush hour concerts, RBC students and staff will perform music by Shostakovich as well as Alfred Schnittke, Sofia Gubaidulina, Mieczysław Weinberg, Galina Ustvolskaya, Boris Tishchenko, and Benjamin Britten.

LANO Quartet
Alan George is a founding member of the Fitzwilliam Quartet, through which he met and collaborated with Dmitri Shostakovich. The Fitzwilliam Quartet gave the Western premieres of the last three of Shostakovich’s quartets, with the composer present for the premiere of the 13th quartet in 1972. They later became the first quartet to perform and record all fifteen quartets.
